Built into every checkup
During every dental checkup, we visually check and feel around for any signs of oral cancer. We look for visible lesions inside the mouth and gently feel around the jaw for any lumps or swelling that may be present.
Many early signs of oral cancer go unnoticed by people as they go about their daily lives; they're often painless, hidden under the tongue or along the cheeks, and easy to dismiss. We want to make sure your overall oral health is in the best condition possible every time you see us.
New patients receive a comprehensive examination that includes an oral cancer screening along with an evaluation for gum and bone disease.

Early detection changes outcomes
Like most cancers, oral cancer is far more treatable when found early, and a screening takes only moments as part of your regular visit. Risk rises with tobacco use in any form, heavy alcohol use, significant sun exposure to the lips, HPV infection, and age; but oral cancer can affect anyone, including people with no risk factors at all.
- Quick and painless: a visual and physical check, no instruments beyond a mirror and gentle touch.
- Every checkup, every patient: screening is automatic at our offices, not an add-on you have to request.
- Specialist eyes on your soft tissue: as periodontists, examining oral tissue is the core of what we do.
- Clear next steps: if we see anything of concern, we'll explain what it is and coordinate any follow-up you need.
